Reiki Meditations

1. GASSHO

The aim of this meditation is to help clear one's mind before a healing session. It can be used as a breathing method to develop awareness of Reiki energy and to help focus the mind. With regular practise, your mind and body will soon get accustomed to getting into a deep meditative state of oneness with everything in the universe. No previous knowledge or experience in meditation is required as this method is the easiest way to regulate your breathing, mind and body.

reiki symbolsGassho means '2 hands coming together', similar to the prayer position of your hands in front of your chest, so your out breath touches the tips of your fingers.

To perform Gassho:
1. Do all these steps slowly
2. Stand with your feet apart or sit comfortably.
3. Close your eyes and put your hands in front of your chest.
4. Focus your whole attention at the point where the two middle fingers meet and forget the rest. Should any thoughts come your way, acknowledge them but let them go i.e. try not to analyse your thoughts or give them any energy by questioning or wondering why the thoughts are there. Return your focus at the point where the two middle fingers meet and with time and regular practise, your mind will learn to be quiet.

2. DANTIAN BREATHING METHOD

Your dantian is located about aprrox. 2-3 fingers below your navel and 3 fingers deep. This breathing method helps to cultivate your 'chi' or 'ki' - your vital life force. As a Reiki practitioner, when you perform this breathing method, you are fusing your vital life force with Reiki. This means healing takes place with Reiki energy and not your vital life force. You will not feel drained after a healing session. With practise, you will be able to locate your dantian and develop awareness of its presence when regulating your breathing, mind and body during meditative states.

To perform Dantian breathing:
1. Do all these steps slowly
2. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart
3. Take slow deep breaths and on your out breath, release all the tension in your body.
4. Rest the tip of your tongue at the back of your front teeth and breath normally.
5. Focus your attention to your lower abdomen.
6. As you breathe in, pull your breath down to your dantian.
7. Breathe out slowly, through your nose or mouth.

Once your feel the dantian point, you have accessed the Dantian energy point of your body.

This breathing method also helps your to clear your mind. You can perform the Gassho as well as access your dantian.

3. PRACTISE FEELING KI

1. Place hands in Gassho position
2. Visualize a bright white light entering your crown chakra
3. Feel reiki emanate throughout your whole being as it fills your body.
4. Rub your hands together until your palms feel warm.
5. Relax your wrists and shake your hands out.
6. Relax your elbows and shake your arms.
7. Return to Gassho and open your hands about 2 inches apart.
8. Visualize chi emanating from your palms and relax

Once you begin to feel the 'chi', begin to explore with it. Separate your hands and then bring them close feeling the different sensations. Create a circle of reiki energy with your hands and place the circle in your heart.
